Stay Salty: Why You Should Be Making Sole Water at Home
A little secret weapon for your wellness routine: Sole Water (pronounced so-lay). It’s super simple and surprisingly effective. It’s basically a natural, mineral-rich electrolyte drink that you can make at home with just two ingredients: mineral-rich raw sea salt and water.
Now before you cringe at the idea of drinking salt water—don’t worry, we’re not talking about a mouthful of ocean here. Sole Water is a daily dose of minerals, not a salty shock to your system. It’s gentle, nourishing, and has been used by many who fast, eat keto, or just want to feel more energized and balanced throughout the day.
So, what is Sole Water?
Sole Water is simply a saturated solution of unrefined salt and water that contains over 80 trace minerals—like magnesium, potassium, and calcium—that your body loves. When you mix those salt crystals with water and let them sit, they create a perfectly balanced, natural electrolyte drink that’s free from all the additives found in store-bought electrolyte powders.
And here's the cool part: your body knows what to do with it. A teaspoon of Sole Water in the morning can help keep you hydrated, support digestion, reduce muscle cramps, and even help with energy levels and sleep. It’s an easy, natural way to get back in sync with what your body really needs.
What Type of Salt Is Best?
Although many recommend using Himalayan pink salt to make solé, We prefer a coarse gray sea salt that’s not only higher in minerals but also independently tested for purity and free from microplastics. Contrary to popular belief, Himalayan pink salt doesn’t actually come from the Himalayas—it’s mined in Pakistan. The salt is sourced from multiple mines, leading to a wide variation in mineral content, with sodium chloride levels ranging anywhere from 85% to 99%. So if you use Himalayan salt, you really have no idea what you are getting.
In contrast, the sea salt we use—harvested from the Sea of Cortez in North America—consistently measured at 72% sodium (NaCl). You can visit their website here: https://bajagoldsaltco.com/ Check out our #RopheApproved page to see more info on other reputable brands that we trust.
For comparison, even well-known Celtic sea salt measures in at 88.5% sodium chloride, and Redmond Real Salt comes in at a hefty 98%, just shy of refined white table salt.
How to Make Sole Water at Home:
You’ll need:
A clean glass jar with a non-metal lid (metal can react with the salt)
Baja Gold Salt
Purified or spring water
Steps:
Fill your jar about 1/4 of the way with salt crystals.
Add water to fill the rest of the jar, leaving a little space at the top.
Give it a gentle shake or stir, then let it sit, covered, at room temperature for 24 hours.
After 24 hours, check to see if there's still some undissolved salt at the bottom. That means the water is fully saturated (which is what you want). If all the salt has dissolved, add a bit more and let it sit for another hour.
Once your Sole Water is ready, it can be stored at room temperature. It won't go bad!
To use it:
Each morning, add 1 teaspoon of the Sole Water to a full glass of regular water (about 8–12 oz, or we like to add it to a mason jar). That’s it! You’re good to go.
